Riverbank’s public officials are proposing a western expansion of the city’s Western boundary. They want to annex about 1,500 acres between Patterson Road on the south, McHenry Avenue on the west, and the Stanislaus River on the north.

Currently, there are plans to build 2,200 - 2,400 homes and businesses on 1,000 of the annexed acres. There is also a “flexible design” caveat which could raise the number of homes by at least 500, potentially making the final number of homes close to 3,000. This area has been rated prime farmland by the State of California and is currently producing cherries and watermelons

The 1,000 acres being considered for development is designated as “flood plain,” by the Federal government (FEMA).

It is a water re-charge area. This means that it sits atop an aquifer and unneeded water can replenish it.

Since it is adjacent to the Stanislaus River it is a riparian habitat and a wildlife corridor.
